In Case of Emergency Use Helvetica

We’ve all been there. It’s 3am the night before the deadline. Bleary-eyed, you pour the last of the burnt coffee that’s been sitting there since dinnertime and even whole milk won’t change the color. You stare at the logo for the 500th time trying to figure out why it just isn’t right, why the typeface seems to impart its own meaning into the logo when you know it shouldn’t. It’s an emergency, you reach for the hammer and break the glass…Crisis averted!

I like it! But being a design pedant I have to point out the disparity between the lovely dirty grungy box and the clean shiny (unrealistic) glass. It would be perfect if you could just smudge it up a bit.

Yea, I guess maybe the cleaning lady gave it a wipe this morning. But it still bugs me :)

goob, If you look closely, maybe download the high-res version, there are smudges on the glass in several places, but in the real world when light strikes a reflective surface the material’s specular properties take precedence over surface irregularities that don’t affect the geometry. :)

Really know what you’re saying, but personally I’ve been using Akzidenz-Grotesk a lot more than Helvetica lately.

    Cool post ;)
